Assessment-led physiotherapy for people who need to get back to a specific sport, not just back to normal life.

The return-to-sport screen

Before anyone goes back to full training we run a hop test battery, a single hop, a triple hop and a crossover hop, each side compared against the other on a Biodex System 4 isokinetic dynamometer. We look for a limb symmetry index of at least 90 per cent on both strength and hop distance before signing anyone off, whatever the calendar says about the next match.

Pitch-side and pontoon cover

We attend training and match days for Portswood Athletic and cover Hamble Point Sailing Club and Itchen Ferry Sailing Club during regatta weekends. Acute injuries get assessed where they happen, not three days later in a clinic room.

Strength and conditioning rehab

Rehab moves from the treatment table to the gym as soon as loading allows, using a Keiser functional trainer and free weights against a written progression, so the last stage of recovery looks like training rather than physiotherapy.
